This O-ring slides over the step on the backside (inside) step of the differential carrier. In some instances, this O-ring has a tendency to roll off when installing the carrier. If this happens, there are two methods that will help, but do not do this untiil you have gone throught the shimming procedures and are ready to install the carrier: 1. Apply a small amount of grease to the O-ring to help retain it. or 2. With clean surfaces (free of grease and oil) put a small amount of super glue at the 12-3-6-9
