A later spindle, 90-3841T2 can be used to replace 2-1096, but if done, a new washer, 90-4378T1 (Ref. 12) which is .10 thick and is made to fit the deeper groove on 90-3841T2, must be ordered. (These parts are used in S-40 axles in Series IV)

The 2-1097 hub (Ref. 21) may no longer be available. If so it can be serviced with Kit P/N 35-1567T91 which includes a 90-1825T2 hub and new other hub bearings to replace Ref. 1 and 2. These are a 16-755 cone and 16-1206 cup. For identification purposes, the 16-1206 cup has a 7-3/4" OD while the standard 01-1358 has a 7-1/2" OD. This repair would not have occurred until after Jan. '84.
